The Jim and Carol Trawick Foundation Tap Scholarships

Applications due August 15, 2008 - NOW CLOSED

AT KOW, KIDS GET INTO TAP ... NOT INTO TROUBLE!

Tappers With Attitude, Inc. is thrilled to partner with The Jim and Carol Trawick Foundation to offer scholarship support to students of KOW and members of Tappers With Atttitude Youth Ensemble. Recipients of this scholarship support will receive full funding for 1 year of classes at KOW or full funding for 1 year of membership in TWA. For the 2008-2009 dance season, scholarship funding will be sufficient to fully fund 1 year of classes for two (2) students at Knock On Wood Tap Studio and to fully fund 1 year of fees for two (2) members of Tappers With Attitude Youth Ensemble.

Recipients will be chosen based on their commitment to advancing their tap dance education and on a demonstration of financial need. It is our hope that scholarship recipients will further their tap dance education during their scholarship years and beyond, as we believe that involvement with KOW and TWA helps youth develop responsibility, respect for the traditions and history of the art form, leadership, self esteem, and stage presence.

Dancers between the ages of 9 and 17 as of September 1, 2008 are invited to apply for support from the Trawick Taps! scholarship program for 1 year of classes at Knock On Wood Tap Studio. Applications must be received at Knock On Wood Tap Studio by Friday August 15, 2008. The KOW scholarship winners will be announced by September 2, 2008, at the outset of the 2008-2009 dance season.

All applications will be reviewed and recipients selected by the Tappers with Attitude, Inc. Trawick Taps! Scholarship Committee. This committee will include TWA Board Members who do not have children involved with Knock On Wood Tap Studio or TWA Youth Ensemble, and volunteers selected by the TWA, Inc. Board of Directors.

Eligible applicants will be evaluated and ranked on the following factors:

  1. A demonstration of financial need.
  2. Location of residence (while the program's target audience is at-need families in Montgomery County, residents from other jurisdictions are eligible for scholarship support).
  3. The quality of the applicant's essay (250 words or less).
  4. One letter of recommendation for the applicant. This letter can be written by one of the applicant's tap dance instructors, but can also be from another adult (not related to the applicant) capable of addressing the applicant's desire and/or dedication to tap dance and worthiness to receive a Trawick Taps! scholarship.

The decisions of the Tappers With Attitude, Inc. Scholarship Committee will be final.

To receive the complete Trawick Taps! scholarship application form, please call Knock On Wood at 301-495-0395.

Kindra J. Ingram, DC - Tap Enrichment Scholarship for KOW Student

Silver Spring chiropractor Kindra J. Ingram, DC, is a former member of Tappers With Attitude Youth Ensemble. She is a strong proponent of this art form and believes that dancing in a group setting has enriched her skills in teamwork and building strong supportive relationships.

To give back to the community that gave her so much, Dr. Ingram has created a scholarship that will be awarded to an existing Knock On Wood student who demonstrates both a commitment to tap dance and significant improvement of tap skills.

This award will cover full tuition for two semesters of tap classes (Fall 2008 & Spring 2009), for one student beween the ages of 9 and 17.

We are very excited by this new program, and grateful to Dr. Ingram for her generosity to our students. Stay tuned for the announcement of the scholarship recipient!
