Class Schedule & Information

2025 Fall Session - Offered in hybrid format (in person & online)

September 8 - December 21

(No classes over Thanksgiving weekend, Nov. 26 - 30)

More general information about the 2025 Fall Session can be found on the CLASSES page.

Registration for Classes: We strongly encourage registration for fall classes, since we need to know you're coming in order to keep our classes going! Drop-ins are always welcome, too... but if you know you'll be around, please register! And if you are new to us, or aren’t sure you are on a teacher’s email list, please email us to be sure.

Class Cards are available for adult/teen fall classes ($22/class by paying for either 5 or 10 classes in advance). Class Cards are available online; 5-class cards are good for 4 months from purchase date, and 10-class cards for good for 8 months from purchase date. Single-class drop-in is $23.

Class Levels

  • It is common for students to stay in a level for a year or more. Please consult with your teacher on which level is right for you.
  • Also, please note that the class level is not equivalent to number of years of dance classes! If you are unsure what level to take, please send an email or call us at 202-722-1625.

  • Note: Every teacher has a different teaching style and exact levels vary from teacher to teacher. Intro is the very beginning level (e.g., never put on tap shoes or haven’t tapped in a long, long time); 1, 1/2, 2, and 2/3 can be considered advanced beginning to intermediate; 3 is intermediate; 4 is intermediate/advanced; and 5 is advanced.

Things You Need to Know for our In Person and Online Fall Session 2025:

  • Payments accepted online through our MindBody registration portal. We strongly prefer everything to be online and in advance. If you do send us a check, there will be a $25 fee for returned checks.
  • No partial payments will be accepted without advance approval.
  • Tuition is nonrefundable after the first day of class.
  • Missed classes from the Fall Session can be made up during the Fall Session in any other class level equal to yours, or in the first 2 months of the Winter/Spring Session.
  • You can also request the video from your missed session if you can't make up a class (note that you will still be charged as if you had taken the class).
  • We still offer classes online and in person. You will receive an email each week reminding you of your class and containing a Zoom link should you wish to use it. We record each class and make the video available on request to those who took the class and to those who pay for the class.
  • The KOW Student Handbook can be downloaded here.

NOTE: Classes are subject to cancellation if under-enrolled.

Unless you tell us otherwise, pictures and videos will be taken from time to time in the studio for promotional purposes. Registration will also automatically sign you up for our newsletter, if you do not already receive it. (You can opt out simply by unsubscribing.)

Flatfooting from Scratch

Dig into the Appalachian percussive dance style of flatfooting done to live stringband music. This class will empower you to get you up on the dance floor at a square dance or your local old-time jam. We will work on the clogging fundamentals, flatfooting basics, Robert Dotson’s Tennessee Walking Step, Thomas Maupin's step, and many others. No prior experience necessary. Come ready to dance in either leather bottoms or smooth soled shoes.

Flatfooting - Intermediate/Advanced

Have you taken flatfooting workshops at festivals and are looking to level up your footwork? In this session we will engage in flatfooting drills that build technical facility and expand musicality, explore improvisation, try on choreography, and much more! Prior knowledge of percussive dance required. Come ready to dance in either leather bottoms or smooth soled shoes.
